Job Profile

The Assistant Head of IT Projects is responsible for the strategic management, planning, and control of half of IT Project delivery throughout the organisation, fulfilled through a team of professional IT project specialists. The role involves working in close liaison with departments and units, ensuring the organisation gains maximum benefit from its investment in information technology. This role will develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for administering IT projects based on PRINCE2, and will direct and control vendors and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define vision and implement strategy for IT Projects within UK & Ireland territory
  • Deliver and report on a portfolio of IT Projects and Programmes (circa 100 per annum) to cost, quality, and time
  • Ensure rigorous selection of new products and vendors
  • Collaborate with Heads of Enterprise Systems, Data & AI, IT Infrastructure, IT Services, and IT Security
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for IT Projects
  • Lead and manage the IT Projects team (2-3 permanent staff plus contractors)
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and budgets (up to £2M per annum)
  • Take a hands-on approach where needed

Requirements

You have…

  • Excellent experience in planning, managing, and delivering IT transformation projects in a geographically diverse organisation
  • Expert-level knowledge of complex IT change programmes
  • Proven ability to plan with a 2-3 year horizon
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven financial management and budget experience
  • Experience managing employees and performance
  • Degree level education and PRINCE2 Practitioner + ITIL Foundation (or equivalents)
  • Flexibility for evening/weekend work and occasional travel

You may have…

  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • A recognised Programme Management qualification (MSP)
