Consultant Psychiatrist

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] Hospital Chelmsford is looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist. This is a full time/37.5 Hours role. Location: Chelmsford. Compensation: £170,000 / year. Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time. Workplace: Onsite. Application Deadline: June 30, 2026.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

  • Provide senior medical leadership and expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with complex mental health needs within [Employer hidden] Chelmsford’s inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Lead on the development and review of personalised treatment plans, including pharmacological and therapeutic interventions, while ensuring high standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, offering clinical supervision, leadership, and guidance to support effective care delivery and positive patient outcomes.
  • Manage risk, Mental Health Act responsibilities, safeguarding, and crisis interventions in line with regulatory frameworks, [Employer hidden] policies, and best practice standards.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and professional education while maintaining compliance with GMC standards and continuing professional development requirements.

What you'll bring to the role

Candidates should be GMC-registered medical practitioners with Specialist Registration (or eligibility) in Psychiatry and hold Approved Clinician status, with substantial experience in adult mental health, inpatient services, or specialist psychiatric care. Proven expertise in complex psychiatric assessment, risk management, Mental Health Act responsibilities, and multidisciplinary leadership is essential. Strong clinical governance knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead teams while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care are highly valued, alongside a commitment to CPD, appraisal, and service development.
