FULL DESCRIPTION

Shift Technician

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a Shift Technician to join the Production team at the Barnstone packing plant. This is a permanent, on-site role based in Nottingham, United Kingdom, offering an excellent salary plus bonus and benefits.

Job Introduction

As a key member of the Production team, the Shift Process Operator is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and cost‑effective operation of the Barnstone packing plant.

Reporting to the Shift Co‑ordinator, the role holder will be accountable for the smooth running, performance and optimisation of allocated plant, with a primary focus on operating plant equipment to maximise throughput. The role also includes operation of the blender and forklift truck within a busy production environment.

In addition, the role requires flexibility to undertake first‑line maintenance, cleaning, manual handling, and other operational duties where required, ensuring all tasks are carried out safely and in line with [Employer hidden] / CRH standards, policies and procedures.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safe working procedures, risk assessments and STOP processes.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example at all times.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE and safe operation of mobile and fixed plant, particularly within congested packing and warehouse areas.
  • Report and record accidents, unsafe conditions and environmental incidents, taking immediate corrective action where required.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including plant lock‑out and first‑aid response where trained.

Operations & Production

  • Operate all packing plant equipment efficiently to maximise throughput and meet production targets.
  • Carry out daily production reporting and ensure all operational records are completed accurately.
  • Load and unload HGVs and manage material movements, including stock replenishment.
  • Monitor plant performance and report any limitations, stoppages or issues to Maintenance before shift end.
  • Undertake basic on‑line testing to verify mix design and production quality.
  • Ensure additives and raw materials are available in the correct quantities and locations.
  • Accurately measure and report stock levels.

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and carry out minor maintenance repairs and adjustments where appropriate.
  • Ensure lubrication levels meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities and contribute to improvement actions.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review plant conditions and performance in line with job plans.

Housekeeping & Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all plant and work areas.
  • Report poor housekeeping standards and take corrective action where required.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with instructions.
  • Comply with all company safety, environmental and operational procedures at all times.

Nature & Area of Impact

The role plays a key part in ensuring production plans are delivered safely and efficiently while responding flexibly to site requirements.

Key operational areas include:

  • Safe operation of packing lines (Adams and Benjamin)
  • Cement milling and micro‑cement production
  • Sand dryer operations
  • Powder blender and feed delivery systems
  • Big bag (IBC) packing operations
  • Pallet storage and loading
  • Meeting customer demand through consistent output

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Experience

  • Essential: Experience working in a busy manufacturing or production environment
  • Essential: Experience operating fast‑moving plant and fault finding
  • Desirable: Experience operating robotic production lines
  • Beneficial: Electrical or mechanical skills within a continuous production environment

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong Health, Safety and Environmental awareness
  • Good IT skills
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting capability
  • Mechanical understanding of heavy industry plant and processes
  • Excellent timekeeping and reliability
