The Weobley and Staunton on Wye Practice has an exciting opportunity for a Qualified Dispenser and welcome applications for a NVQ2 Qualified Dispenser. Main Duties of the Job

  • Project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors.
  • Process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses.
  • Assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.
  • Undertake sickness and holiday cover as part of the Dispensary rota.

About Us

The Weobley and Staunton on Wye Practice is a rural dispensing GP Surgery split across two locations with approximately 6,500 patients. [Employer hidden] Ltd is advertising this position on behalf of Weobley & Staunton Surgery. This means that Weobley & Staunton Surgery is the employing organisation and will make the final decision on appointing candidates. [Employer hidden] Ltd will collate all relevant information for recruitment and pre-employment checks, which will then be securely transferred to Weobley & Staunton Surgeries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and consult the authorising doctor if in doubt.
  • Collect all due prescription charges and ensure patient declaration on FP10 is completed.
  • Ensure all monies received are appropriately stored and records kept.
  • Order appropriate quantities of goods via wholesaler computer link.
  • Check incoming stock against invoice and enter onto EMIS LV for stock control.
  • Forward invoices and dispensary correspondence to Practice Manager or Dispensary Manager.
  • Operate efficient stock control to ensure continuity of supply and minimise wastage.
  • Store drugs appropriately and maintain a high level of hygiene.
  • Take prompt action on drug alert bulletins.
  • Maintain temperature control records for refrigerated items.
  • Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential: Previous stock and quality control experience; Computer literate with excellent keyboard skills; Used to handling and reconciling cash; Self-starter able to work on own initiative.

Desirable: Previous experience of working in General Practice Dispensary or Hospital Pharmacy; Use of clinical system software (e.g. EMIS); Reception/Customer Care experience.

Skills & Abilities

Essential: Excellent communicator both verbally and written; Ability to organise own tasks and work systematically; Ability to respect confidentiality at all times; Enquiring mind with willingness to learn.

Personal Attributes

Essential: Understanding and commitment to working in a large Primary Care Team; Ability to remain calm under pressure; Capable of working unsupervised; Capable of consistent accuracy and concentration under pressure; Keen to learn new skills.

Desirable: Self-motivated but aware of limits of authority.

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential: Demonstrate understanding and commitment to good standards of patient care; Enjoys working as part of a Primary Care Team; Flexible approach to work and ability to cover colleagues.

Desirable: Understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace.

Qualifications

Essential: Good level of education to GCSE standard or equivalent; BTEC/NPA qualification in Dispensing or NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing.
