Research Scientist (Food Policy)

Background
The Food Databanks National Capability (FDNC), soon to become a BBSRC National Bioscience Research Infrastructure, is the leading national provider of new and continuously updated data, knowledge and tools relating to food composition, intake and food systems. The [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] compiles and publishes data on the composition of foods eaten in the UK, used for nutritional information for food labelling and the National Diet and Nutrition Survey. FDNC enables delivery of nutritional policy and high-quality science in support of national needs in nutrition, health and sustainability.
The Role
We are looking for a postdoctoral (or masters with appropriate experience) scientist to coordinate and align activities around Food Policy and increase engagement with research and user communities. Responsibilities include:
- Horizon scanning and keeping up-to-date knowledge of national Food Policy debates
- Critically evaluate UK and international trends in food policy and the food system
- Establish strategic links with Food Policy groups
- Increase engagement via a new multi-actor platform
- Establish systems to capture stakeholder needs for NBRI development
The post is available at SC6 level; candidates with demonstrable ability to lead on grant submission/publications may be considered at SC5 level.
The Ideal Candidate
This post is suited to a graduate in nutrition, dietetics, or food policy with a PhD (or Masters with research experience) and strong interest in food and nutrition policy. You will have experience in qualitative/quantitative research and data analysis related to food policy, coordinating feedback from multi-actor platforms, and crafting policy position documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently are essential.
Additional Information
Salary on appointment: £33,050 to £40,750 per annum (SC6) or £42,050 to £51,950 per annum (SC5). This is a full-time post for a contract of 3 years.
