Background

Food Databanks National Capability is a well-established and national resource for food information and data to support food and health research and policy in the UK and internationally. FDNC compiles and publishes data on the composition of foods eaten in the UK. It provides two different food-related databases, one on nutrients and the other on bioactive compounds, and the labelling dataset. FDNC has been involved and led a succession of UK- and EU-funded projects and consortia around diet and health. We are currently lead partners in a consortium to develop an EU-wide Food, Nutrition Security (FNS) data cloud that will connect various types of data relevant for the food and health research community. We also work closely with QIB research groups and our Norwich Research Park (NRP) partners – the University of East Anglia and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital – and are involved in a number of human dietary intervention studies to understand how diet prevents disease.

This is an important central role to support the team in the administration and management of a range of projects. The post-holder will also be responsible for providing support for the NC-Lead and Deputy-Lead of FDNC, diary and email management, UK and international travel organisation, website updating and maintenance, minute taking, financial reconciliation of invoices and travel expenses.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have excellent organisation and communication skills, be highly IT literate (including Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc), be flexible, and be able to manage their own workload effectively. Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous. Some experience in website editing (ideally WordPress) is also desirable.
