Research Scientist

Background

Research at the Beraza Lab focuses on defining the fundamental mechanisms regulating the gut-microbiome-liver axis to preserve life-long health. This BBSRC funded project will seek to define the role of autophagy in regulating liver function. This project has a strong mechanistic and translational focus.

The Role

The Research Scientist will use experimental models to investigate the regulation of autophagy and its impact in controlling liver function. They will combine molecular biology techniques with high-throughput methodologies and immune-cell characterisation techniques in samples obtained from in vivo models. This postdoctoral position is to be part of a BBSRC-funded project.

The post holder will be expected to work with minimal supervision and lead the project independently; to design in vivo studies, to formulate research questions, design and perform experiments, to critically process and interpret the resulting data and to design future experiments. The appointed researcher will also show capacity to learn quickly, work in a team, help other members of the team and to work with internal and external collaborators.

The Ideal Candidate

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry or equivalent
  • Knowledge of diverse molecular and cell biology methodologies
  • Data analysis skills
  • Experience on in vitro as well as in vivo preclinical models (essential)
  • Experience of performing immunoblotting as well as flow cytometry on tissue samples (essential)
  • Experience with histopathological analysis (advantageous)

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,578 to £39,938 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 3 years.
