Background
The Webber group works in clinical and public health microbiology; in particular the development of tools for molecular epidemiology and bacterial identification. The group’s research is based at [Employer hidden] and is also linked with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The overarching aim of the research program is to improve understanding of infectious disease agents through the development of new techniques for understanding bacterial strain variation.
The Role
The post-holder will undertake research and manage projects relevant to “Understanding Biofilm Formation on Medical Implants”. Specifically, to develop methods to allow translation of our fundamental science. This will mainly focus on using biochemical approaches to identify bacterial proteins or metabolites with differential abundance in defined growth conditions. These can be used to understand biology of biofilm formation and act as biomarkers. The post will include the development and optimisation of methods for metabolite identification and quantification. The post-holder will contribute to other relevant research projects in QIB in collaboration with NNUH in the area of pathogen biology.
The Ideal Candidate
Candidates should have a PhD in biology or chemistry, or extensive experience relevant to the development and optimisation of methods for rapid metabolite detection in clinical samples. Good organisation, an attention to detail and the ability to work as part of a team are also required.

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,258 to £39,938 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 2 years.
