FULL DESCRIPTION

Senior Research Scientist in Microbial Metagenomics

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a Senior Research Scientist in Microbial Metagenomics to join the Microbes in the Food Chain Programme at [Employer hidden] (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background

The Microbes in the Food Chain strategic programme at the Quadram Institute is a world leader in metagenomic studies that seek to understand the ecology of bacterial pathogens in foods. Foodborne pathogens exist as communities with other bacteria across the entire food chain, and the nature of this co-existence can inform how these pathogens transmit across health domains and ultimately cause disease. Metagenomic tools are used across our Institute for determining the composition and dynamics of bacterial communities in different foods and environments, for studying etiologic agents of disease, and for characterising bacterial responses to stresses such as antibiotics.

The Role

The Senior Research Scientist will drive the development of metagenomic studies across our programme through their expertise in sequencing and informatics approaches, their ability to collaborate and coordinate with our research groups conducting metagenomic studies, and their ability to liaise with external partners to manage projects.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have PhD in a biological science subject e.g. Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Bioinformatics, or Biochemistry. They will have substantial experience in pathogen DNA enrichment/ host DNA depletion strategies, and specialist knowledge of microbial metagenomics and molecular diagnostics. Candidates should also have proven track-record in publishing their scientific findings, and experience supervising trainees and technical staff.

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £40,785 to £49,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full time post available until 31st March 2023.

Further information and details of how to apply can be found here or contact the Human Resources team on [contact hidden] or [contact hidden] quoting reference 1004050.
