[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] - Norwich, UK

  • Salary: £32,255 to £39,345 per annum
  • Contract Length: 24 months
  • Closing Date: 7 July 2021

Background

Food Databanks National Capability (FDNC) is the national provider of nutritional food composition data eaten in the UK, which underpin research into diet and health, and the role of diet in shaping human gut microbiome. We are lead partners in a consortium to develop an EU-wide Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) data cloud (FNS-Cloud) that will connect and FAIRify various types of data for the food, health and microbiome research community (2019-2023). As part of the FNS-Cloud we are undertaking a human dietary intervention study (DIME study), designed to investigate the effects of plant bioactive-rich diets on gut microbiome diversity and on metabolic health markers. Dr Traka is also a founding member of the ELIXIR Food & Nutrition Community that aims to facilitate meaningful harmonization, integration and analysis of datasets relevant for food, health & microbiome research, underpinned by FAIR principles.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to drive bioinformatics analyses by:

  • Leading the metagenomic analyses from the DIME study through applying and adapting existing software from the Hildebrand lab.
  • Developing a framework to integrate additional data types (whole genome sequencing, metabolomics of faecal and urine samples, metabolic models) into metagenomic workflows that can be used consortium wide.
  • Developing a series of activities (eg putting together bioinformatic pipelines, generate how-to videos, etc) using the human microbiome study and other publicly available microbiome datasets to demonstrate the capabilities of the FNS-Cloud.

The post holder will work closely with Dr Traka (FDNC) and the Hildebrand Bioinformatics group at [Employer hidden].

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proficient in Bash scripting and working with LINUX environments.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Perl, R).
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced statistics or numerical ecology (e.g. Regression Models and Time Series).
  • Experience with analysis of microbial sequencing data.

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,255 to £39,345 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for a contract of 24 months.
