Job Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoc position in Dr Alison Mather’s group, at the [Employer hidden], based in Norwich, UK. Working in collaboration with researchers at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, the group is leading a ground-breaking project on the genomic epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with a particular focus on salmonella in Brazilian pig and poultry production.

Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of chicken meat and the fourth largest producer of pigs, and with an increasing demand for animal protein, antimicrobial consumption in livestock is expected to nearly double in Brazil by 2030. Working on this project, will provide you with an incredible opportunity to address key questions in the field of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) an its impact on global food production.

We seek a highly motivated individual with:

• A strong interest in collaborative work.
• Solid experience in bioinformatics and genomics data analysis.
• A Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology or related discipline is required (in exceptional circumstances we will consider applicants who have significant relevant experience of high-throughput sequencing and microbial genomics).
• Good communication skills.

They will have:

• Practical knowledge of short- and long-read whole genome sequencing.
• Significant experience of bioinformatics analyses of large datasets.

We are looking for someone exceptional, who will use a combination of approaches, including and statistical modelling to identify factors associated with AMR, the impact of antimicrobial use on AMR, and the dynamics of Salmonella and AMR within production systems.

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is a fulltime contract for a period of 2 years.
