Research Scientist

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is hiring a Research Scientist. The role is full-time for 12 months, based in Norwich, UK. Salary: £31,250 - £38,100 per annum. Closing date: 26 May 2019.

Background

Gastrointestinal illness continues to be a considerable cause of morbidity in the UK with up to 17 million sporadic cases annually. Next generation sequencing technologies provide an opportunity to assay the microbiome in an untargeted manner to explore GI diseases with unknown aetiology.

The Role

The successful candidate will join a team working on gut commensal microbiome and biocontrol of pathogens. The post holder will perform extensive analysis of gut microbiome using molecular profiling methods and assess metabolism using metabolomics platforms.

The Ideal Candidate

  • PhD in microbiology or molecular biology
  • Knowledge of molecular profiling of microbial communities
  • Experience in metagenomics data analysis and anaerobic microbiology desirable
  • Ability to handle pathogens safely and experience in designing human studies

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full time post for a contract of 12 months.
