Principal Investigator (Senior and Early Career) in Microbiome and Mycobiome Research
[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is an interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food, microbiome and health research. It brings together clinical and non-clinical scientists in a new state-of-the-art building that opened in April 2019. Based on the Norwich Research Park, home of the John Innes Centre, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, the Earlham Institute and the University of East Anglia, and one of the largest centres of life sciences in Europe.
We have a Principal Investigator role within the [Employer hidden]'s Gut Microbes and Health research programme to deliver scientific excellence and social and economic impact in microbiome research. We welcome applications from individuals undertaking cutting-edge microbiome research with a research focus on eukaryotes and fungi associated to the human host, or changes in the microbiome during ageing.
The position will come with access to early- and late-life longitudinal cohorts and research projects benefitting from these are welcome, such as defining the intercommunication and crosstalk between gut (eukaryotic) microbes and their host, how these are first established in early life and are altered in later life, and in diseases affecting the gut and other organ systems at various ages. We would particularly welcome those with a focus on the mycobiome and its interaction with other constituents of the intestinal microbiome as well as the host, and how these interactions impact on organ systems beyond the gut including the brain or liver, with a firm understanding of systems biology, mathematical modelling of gut function and numerical ecology.
Requirements
- Senior Principal Investigators, as Research Group Leaders, will have experience of leading and developing a successful research programme and research teams.
- Senior candidates must demonstrate an impressive publication record and have experience of achieving research funding.
- Early career Principal Investigators will have an excellent postdoctoral track record with the potential to develop and lead a high quality research programme.
- A focus on mycobiome and its interaction with other gut microbes and host, and impacts on organ systems beyond the gut.
- Firm understanding of systems biology, mathematical modelling of gut function and numerical ecology.
