Research Leader (Biofilms – Microbes in the Food Chain)

The [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a dynamic research leader to lead a programme on microbes in the food chain, focusing on molecular interactions in biofilms.

Background

The [Employer hidden] undertakes research in study of key foodborne pathogens, including Campylobacter, Listeria, Salmonella and Escherichia coli. We are now seeking to bring in a forward-thinking research leader capable of contributing to this existing body of work whilst also developing their own research programme, exploiting the considerable resources available and helping to establish the [Employer hidden] as a leader in food safety and food security research.

The Role

The post holder will contribute to achieving the [Employer hidden]’s research aims, which include understanding biofilms in a number of environments, including within the food chain and in the human gut. We have expertise that brings together excellence in imaging, microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling in understanding bacterial behaviour and interactions within these environments.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in imaging of bacterial foodborne pathogens including specialist knowledge of organisms found in the gut and in the food chain.
  • Expertise in structured illumination microscopy is particularly welcome.
  • A good publication record, obvious potential for attracting funding, and a clear vision for collaborative research.

A partnership between [Employer hidden] Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research), the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building.
