About the Project
This project will examine the function of archaea in the human gut. The human gut harbours a diverse microbiome, and although the vast majority of humans carry archaea in their gastrointestinal tracts, these archaea are underexplored and little is known about the role they play in human health. This study will test the hypothesis that gut archaea play a key role in degradation of metabolites harmful to human health. The project relies on the use of molecular biology techniques, microbiological cultivation and analytical chemistry techniques.
