About the Role
Applications are invited for a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Nathalie Juge in the Gut Microbes and Health Programme at [Employer hidden] (QIB). The Juge Group focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms mediating the interaction between gut bacteria and the mucus layer covering the gastrointestinal tract with a focus on mucin glycosylation. The post-holder will contribute to the experimental work of a BBSRC-funded grant investigating the metabolism of sialic acid in gut bacteria. Specifically, they will carry out cell work and in vivo mouse studies and use microscopy and bioimaging approaches to analyse samples.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cell work and in vivo mouse studies
- Use microscopy and bioimaging approaches to analyse samples
- Work closely with other post-doctoral scientists and collaborators
- Write reports and publications
- Present at meetings and conferences
Requirements
- PhD in a relevant biological field (Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Microbiology or Glycobiology)
- In-depth knowledge of intestinal biology and gut microbiology
- Skills in bioimaging and confocal microscopy (essential)
- Experience in tissue culture and mouse work
- Animal personal license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
