About the Role

We are seeking a creative early-career or established researcher to develop and deliver scientific excellence and social and economic impact in food and health research within the Food Databanks National Capability (FDNC) at the [Employer hidden].

Background

The [Employer hidden] is at the forefront of a new interface between food science, gut biology and health, developing solutions to worldwide challenges in food-related disease and human health. We are engaged in fundamental and translational food and health research, alongside clinical studies, endoscopy and industry, working together to become a leading international hub for food and health research. In preparation for the full opening of the [Employer hidden] in 2018, the Institute of Food Research transitioned into [Employer hidden] Bioscience on April 28th 2017.

FDNC manages data on the composition of foods eaten in the UK. As well as providing nutritional information for food labelling, these data underpin research into links between diet and health at the [Employer hidden] and across the UK biosciences community.

The Role

The role will involve management of ongoing projects; preparation and leadership of funding proposals, scientific publications and reports; knowledge transfer and outreach activities. As Deputy Head of FDNC the post holder will be expected to undertake specialist roles and have Research Leader status within QIB.

Ideal Candidate

  • Good biosciences degree, preferably a PhD
  • Significant experience of developing a successful research team
  • Impressive publication record
  • Experience of achieving research funding in food, nutrition, and health area
  • Interest in commercialisation of research and delivering science to users

Additional Information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £48,000 to £59,400 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is an indefinite post.
