FULL DESCRIPTION

Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Campylobacter Metabolic Modelling)

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] (QIB) seeks a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Prof. John Wain's group. The project involves generating genome-scale metabolic models for Campylobacter species.

The project

Research in the Wain group focuses on the use of new technologies in clinical and public health microbiology; in particular the development of sequence based tools for molecular epidemiology and bacterial identification. This project aims to generate genome scale metabolic models for Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli.

The role

The postholder will integrate high-throughput phenotypic datasets into the models for refinement and validation of model predictions as well as expanding the initial model to other strains of interest. They will also occasionally present research findings at project meetings, scientific conferences and outreach/training events. The postholder will also contribute to laboratory management, such as participating in group meetings and supervising visitors to the laboratory.

The ideal candidate

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. Microbiology, Biotechnology or related discipline), and experience in working in metabolic modelling. They should also possess a proven record in scientific writing, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is initially for a period of 48 months, or until 31st March 2022, whichever comes first, with the possibility of extension dependent on availability of follow-on funding.
