Laboratory Technician (Microbiology and Molecular Biology)

Salary: £24,300 to £29,750 per annum

Contract: Full-time, 12 months

About the Role

Applications are invited for a Laboratory Technician to join the Mather group at the [Employer hidden] in Norwich, UK. The post holder will collect food products, and maintain microbiological and molecular workflows following standard operating protocols and appropriate laboratory practices. Work will include isolation of bacteria using culture methods; molecular preparation of samples for whole genome sequence analysis; generating and maintaining a culture and sample collection inventory; providing laboratory support for the Mather Research Group projects investigating microbial populations in the food chain. Weekly workflow will also include driving to retail locations around Norfolk to purchase food products utilising predetermined sampling protocols.

Requirements

  • BSc or equivalent in biomedical science or similar
  • Hands-on experience in microbiology and molecular biology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
  • Valid UK driving licence (own car not necessary; hire vehicle provided)
