Standardisation Manager
[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is searching for a Standardisation Manager to join our OMNIA® Training team. As a Standardisation Manager, you will be critical to the successful delivery of the programme, collaborating within matrix organisation, with multi-disciplinary teams within Engineering. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Standardisation Management Plan (SMP) in accordance with JSP 920.
- Establish and manage processes to identify, record, and control standards across the full engineering lifecycle of the programme.
- Maintain and manage the ACTS Standards Library (ASL), ensuring all applicable standards are documented, traceable, and accessible.
- Identify relevant national, international, and defence standards including ISO, NATO STANAG, British Standards, and Five Eyes interoperability standards.
- Ensure standards are incorporated into system design, procurement, integration, testing, and support processes.
- Work closely with the Design Authority, engineering teams, and third-party stakeholders to identify and assess standards during technical review gates.
- Ensure alignment with MOD standardisation policy, architecture frameworks, and system interoperability requirements.
- Manage change control for standards including addition, modification, or retirement through engineering governance processes.
- Conduct assessments and risk analysis for legacy or obsolete standards where continued use may be required.
- Provide standards oversight during design reviews, ensuring compliance with architecture frameworks and engineering policies.
- Support the adoption of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques to ensure standards compliance across system design and verification activities.
- Liaise with MOD standardisation stakeholders and organisations to ensure alignment with defence standards and emerging policy.
- Provide guidance and support to engineering teams on the selection and implementation of appropriate standards.
- Ensure procurement activities adhere to agreed standardisation approaches for hardware, software, and services.
- Monitor the implementation of standards across the programme and report compliance and risks to programme leadership.
- Evaluate emerging standards and recommend their adoption where beneficial to interoperability, capability, or system integration.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience managing technical standards, policies, or engineering governance within complex programmes.
- Strong knowledge of defence, international, and industry standards frameworks including ISO, NATO STANAGs, and British Standards.
- Experience implementing standardisation processes across engineering lifecycles including design, integration, testing, and support.
- Experience maintaining standards registers, libraries, or configuration-controlled documentation repositories.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and the role of standards in enabling interoperability and integration.
- Experience supporting design reviews, technical governance boards, or engineering assurance processes.
- Experience working with engineering teams, design authorities, and programme stakeholders to enforce technical standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess technical standards and their applicability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain standards requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working within regulated or defence environments with formal governance structures.
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Holds or is eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience working with MOD standards and governance frameworks including JSP 920 and defence standardisation processes.
- Experience using standards management or reference tools such as British Standards Online (BSOL) or StanMIS.
- Experience working with Model-Based Systems Engineering environments and tools (e.g. SysML modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect).
- Familiarity with architecture frameworks used in defence environments (e.g. NAFv4).
- Experience supporting procurement standardisation activities for hardware, software, and engineering services.
- Experience working with large defence supply chains and ensuring vendor compliance with engineering standards.
