Your Role
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that [Employer hidden] achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity ensuring that RBET achieves its mission to provide tailored education, wellbeing and social integration to young people unable to attend mainstream school. Their principal role is to make strategic educational decisions in line with the vision, mission and values of the charity. Together with the other trustees they oversee the senior staff’s management and administration of the charity, ensuring legal, financial, educational and safeguarding compliance. The Board of Trustees has a collective responsibility, meaning that it always acts as a group and not as individuals.

[Employer hidden] is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers must share this commitment. This role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS and children’s barred list check, verification of identity, right to work in the UK, references, and other relevant pre-employment checks. Candidates barred from working with children must not apply. No staff will have unsupervised access to learners until all checks and mandatory safeguarding training are completed. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (and its amendments), and applicants must declare all convictions, cautions, or reprimands, including those considered ‘spent’.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a Trustee with a strong background in education, ideally within a school‑based context, to complement the skills, experience, and expertise of our existing Board. This role will play a key part in ensuring that the Trust continues to meet its responsibilities and that both students and staff are well supported and cared for. The successful candidate’s professional experience and educational values will align closely with Red Balloon’s educational philosophy and practice. They will understand and uphold the Trust’s core principles, ensuring that Red Balloon’s educational provision remains responsive to the evolving nature of modern education and to the complex needs of our learners. The Education Trustee will focus particularly on the Trust’s educational operations, championing a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports students’ academic progress alongside their therapy and wellbeing needs. They will oversee and support Heads and staff in the development of Centre Development Plans and will monitor the personal and professional development of staff across the Trust. Working collaboratively with the other Board members, they will help ensure that the Trust operates smoothly, efficiently, and effectively, and remains fully compliant with its legal obligations and responsibilities, always acting in accordance with Red Balloon’s values.
