Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Rig Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit. Acts as the formal single point of contact with the Client and is responsible for the liaison and negotiations with the Client on all matters operational.
  • Ensure that the unit fulfils all authority, Client and company requirements with regards to the technical standard of the unit its equipment and certification.
  • Responsible for the operational management of their assigned unit in accordance with the policies of the Company.
  • Responsible for the performance of the drilling unit on behalf of the Client.
  • Maintain Client Relationships.
  • Ensure that the operation of the unit is planned and organised in accordance with established procedures, and that the necessary resources are available.
  • Plan and control all financial aspects of the operation within the budget.
  • Ensure that compliance with requirements relating to safety, quality and profitability is achieved.
  • Review ORA’s ensuring they have appropriate and sufficient mitigations.
  • Develop and deliver measurable and demonstrable SMART Management Objectives on a quarterly basis.
  • Develop and convey Rig Objectives, jointly with the Client where required, to offshore personnel.
  • Review Presight data on a daily basis and promptly address overdue or failed target items.
  • Supervise all project interfaces within other parts of the Company.
  • Ensure that all personnel on board the unit are adequately trained and experienced to perform the tasks they are assigned ensuring competency expectation levels are met and address all outstanding and overdue standards/elements.
  • Ensure that subcontractor evaluation, selection and management is done in accordance with established procedures.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Candidate must have completed IWCF or IADC Wellcap Well Control at Subsea Supervisor level prior to joining the company.
  • For person recruited and promoted to the position, or promoted from within Stena, that person must hold a current IWCF or IADC Certificate or pass an IWCF course prior to completing probation period.
  • There are occasions where Clients may specify that IWCF Well Control Certificate must be current, in which case the Rig Manager may be required to pass a course in order to retain that assignment.
  • Substantial previous experience offshore on drilling rigs.
  • Suitable supervisory position in the drilling industry.
  • Previous experience in Operations /Engineering Support position, including Assistant Rig Manager.
  • Degree level or equivalent in Engineering preferred but recognised Marine/Marine Engineering/Drilling Engineering qualification may be acceptable when supported by suitable experience in the Drilling Industry.
