The Purpose

The Strategic Contract Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management, performance, and growth of key blue-chip customer contracts. This role ensures contractual compliance, drives operational excellence, and builds strong strategic partnerships with our customers. The role acts as the bridge between commercial, operational, and finance teams to deliver service excellence, continuous improvement, and profitable growth.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contract Ownership & Governance: Manage customer contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, SLAs, and KPIs; Lead contract reviews, renewals, and renegotiations with senior leadership; Ensure consistent application of contractual obligations; Manage risk, including financial exposure and service penalties.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Act as the main contact for key accounts; Build strong relationships across customer organisations; Lead regular service reviews with clear performance reporting; Manage expectations and resolve escalations.
  • Commercial Performance & Financial Control: Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost efficiencies; Manage pricing structures, rate cards, and cost models; Lead change control and ensure all services are billed.
  • Operational Alignment & Performance: Work with Operations to ensure service delivery meets KPIs; Monitor metrics such as OTIF, cost per case, utilisation, and accuracy; Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions; Support start-ups, transitions, and new implementations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with Operations, Finance, IT, HR, and Commercial teams; Align customer requirements with business capabilities; Provide clear reporting to senior leadership.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Produce performance reports using Excel and reporting tools; Track KPIs, financials, and improvement initiatives; Use data to support decisions and customer discussions.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in contract management within logistics, supply chain, or 3PL environments
  • Experience managing blue-chip retail or FMCG customers
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing P&L profitability
  • Experience in chilled or food logistics environments
  • Experience of multi-site operations and transport networks
  • Strong commercial and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capability
  • Ability to manage multiple contracts and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
