Job Summary
An exciting opportunity as Phlebotomist has arisen to join our Pathology Department at [Employer hidden].
- Perform venepuncture under supervision of the senior phlebotomy team and managers as designated; after achieving competence post holder will be expected to work alone when and where required.
- Follow the general policies and protocols of the department and, in association with the clinical scientific and technical staff, assist in maintaining the highest professional standards.
Main Duties of the Job
- Collect samples from inpatients, patients attending outpatient clinics. Liaise with clinicians, other healthcare professionals including laboratory staff.
- Perform a range of venepuncture techniques in a variety of clinical settings.
- Be aware of clinical conditions and precautions for sample quality.
- Ensure blood sample bottles are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies.
- Ensure clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory.
- Seek guidance from experienced Phlebotomists as necessary.
- Be aware of and work to relevant departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform reception and telephone duties and refer complex enquiries to senior staff.

Salary and Contract
Salary: £25,272 a year pro-rata per annum (Agenda for Change Band 2). Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Part-time (18.75 hours per week).

Person Specification
Education
Essential: GCSE's/NVQ to level 2. Desirable: Venepuncture certificate.
Experience
Essential: Customer service. Desirable: Experience in a healthcare environment, Previous experience in venepuncture.
Skills
Essential: Good computer skills. Desirable: Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
