Job Description
The Future Tutors programme is one of the RSN's most important in terms of training new Tutors who will go out to teach for the RSN worldwide whether in person or online. Applicants do not need to have qualified as a Future Tutor or Graduate Apprentice but understanding of the RSN through experience on the Certificate and Diploma programmes would be useful. Looking ahead, we are considering implementing changes in a number of areas and experience of FE/HE would be helpful as would flexibility on days worked.
Reports to the Chief Executive and liaises with Head of Education and Teaching. Responsible for FT Course Administrator. The role will operate two days (14 hours) a week, probably Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will need to be some flexibility as Open Days whether live or online will take place at weekends and evenings. Reporting to it will be a new Administrator for one day a week on Wednesdays (or two half days Wednesday and either Tuesday or Thursday).
Principal Aim
To oversee the training of the Future Tutors from selection to graduation, planning the timetable, mentoring the students, arranging assessments, developing the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan the annual timetable including induction and engage the relevant tutors.
- Develop the Open Day programme and host all Open Days, following up queries.
- Undertake the recruitment of new Future Tutors with relevant colleagues, meeting RSN objectives to diversify and broaden the range of applicants.
- Hold weekly briefings and regular 1:1s with students to check progress and personal development, including feedback of assessment.
- Review, plan and develop the FT curriculum and format based on feedback from tutors and students to ensure it keeps meeting future needs.
- Ensure tutors are up to speed with the needs of the students each year and any particular learning issues to be aware of.
- Plan, propose and monitor the annual budget.
- Provide information on students to the fundraisers as required.
- Review annually and update as required all briefs, technique related material, assessment procedures and ensure they are ready to be put online in the FT area prior to the start of the academic year.
- Liaise with tutors on the recommendations they have for course modifications and developments.
- Set the learning outcomes for each aspect of the course and convey learning outcomes to tutors at the time of engagement and review lesson plans of tutors.
- Plan the graduation event in conjunction with Head of Education, select pieces for the exhibition at the end of year, and hanging of exhibition.
- Oversee assessments, discuss with assessors and moderator. Take cognisance of any issues arising from the work assessed and work to implement changes as required.
- Liaise with Day Class Manager, Bespoke Classes Manager and Marketing Manager regarding tutor teaching experience.
- Write reports for each Council meeting and implement developments required by CE and Council.
- Ensure FTs are represented in the Ops meeting.
- Undertake any additional activities as required by the CE.
