FULL DESCRIPTION

HSDU Endoscopy Technician

The Decontamination Technician is responsible for providing effective safe and efficient collection, decontamination (washing, disinfection and sterilization) and distribution of re-usable medical devices. Technicians must comply with the essential requirements of MDR 2017 and UKCA, the decontamination units maintain a quality system (I.S.O 13485:2016), this is a legal requirement under the consumer protection act. To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, reassembly, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices. Record all processes in the tracking and tracing database. To reprocess Endoscopes, record all processes of each Endoscope in the tracking and tracing database and to ensure all Endoscopes are placed in a dryer cabinet within 1 hour prior to use.

Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week (06:00am - 14:00pm and 13:00pm - 21:30pm on a rota basis). Salary: £25,272 Per Annum. Closing: 13/05/2026 23:59.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To work in accordance with Departmental Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System.
  • To reprocess reusable medical devices under supervision; disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, assemble, sterilize, despatch and track in a controlled environment.
  • To reprocess endoscopes using high level disinfection involving packing, storage and dispatch.
  • To operate washer disinfectors, AER washers, Dryer cabinets and Sterilisers including loading machines, checking detergents, maintaining records as required.
  • To report any faulty instruments or equipment to Supervisor.
  • To maintain accurate records involved in production.

Person Specification

Education

Essential: Literate and numerate (Read & Write). Desirable: Equivalent to GCSE in English and Maths.

Knowledge

Desirable: Knowledge of surgical instrumentation / flexible endoscopes.

Experience

Essential: Working under pressure and at speed; keeping a high standard of cleanliness. Desirable: Experience of decontamination; experience of working within a hospital environment, particularly sterile services or endoscopy; experience of working within a quality system.

Work Related Circumstances

Essential: Shift work and overtime; flexible in approach to duties and prepared to work reasonable extended hours weekends and bank holidays and on-call.
