Join the [Employer hidden] Team
[Employer hidden] is an immersive social platform, home to a passionate, global user base and a vibrant creator community. Our community is what makes us successful and that shapes how we think about People. We’re fully remote, globally distributed, and backed by $100M from Makers Fund, Anthos Capital, and HTC. We move fast, build lean, and care deeply about the people and culture that make this work.
Job Overview
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution. You’ll own the full People function, reporting directly to the CEO and serving as [Employer hidden]’s most senior People leader.
We’re looking for a builder: someone who sets direction and does the work, moves fast, and is actively exploring how AI can transform the way People teams operate. If you’re energized by leading lean, high-impact environments and care deeply about building inclusive, community-aligned cultures, this role was built for you.
You’ll lead a small, high-impact team and you’ll be expected to be a player-coach who sets the strategy and rolls up their sleeves to execute it.
Job & Team Impact
As Director of People, you’ll shape how [Employer hidden] attracts, develops, and retains the talent that makes our mission possible. You’ll be a trusted partner to the CEO and business leaders, a coach to managers, and a champion for the people and culture that make [Employer hidden] distinct.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Own the full People function, with accountability spanning People Operations, Talent & Recruiting, Performance & Growth, Compensation Strategy, Culture & Engagement, and Manager Enablement
- Serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, aligning People strategy with business goals and delivering talent insights that connect people metrics to outcomes
- Translate engagement, attrition, and performance data into proactive executive-level narratives and recommendations
- Lead and develop a small, high-impact People team, ensuring they have the support, clarity, and tools to do their best work
- Own recruiting strategy, with a consistent focus on quality of hire and long-term fit. Be the closer on senior and hard-to-fill roles
- Evolve our performance frameworks to keep pace with how we work, giving managers practical tools that drive real accountability
- Own how [Employer hidden] thinks about compensation: leveling, equity philosophy, and how it’s communicated to candidates and employees
- Embed AI into People Operations by identifying and implementing solutions that meaningfully reduce manual workload and enhance the employee experience
- Sustain and evolve [Employer hidden]’s inclusive, remote-first culture across a globally distributed and diverse workforce
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- 8–12 years in People/HR, with ownership of a People function or a significant pillar of it, budget accountability, and leadership partner experience
- Demonstrated track record of building and executing people programs with measurable impact
- Fast and iterative. Gets a v1 in front of stakeholders in days, not weeks, and improves from there
- Experience supporting fully remote, globally distributed teams
- Has scaled a People function at a company in the 100–500 employee range
- AI-forward: actively uses AI in People work today and can identify, evaluate, and implement solutions that reduce manual workload
- Earns trust quickly and influences at all levels through expertise and judgment
- Genuinely aligned with how we work: bold enough to experiment, willing to engage in healthy debate and then commit fully, collaborative by default, and motivated by outcomes over activity
- Empathetic and decisive; comfortable operating in ambiguity and making pragmatic calls with imperfect information
- Able to operate at the executive level, comfortable presenting people data and insights to leadership and a board
- Experience managing globally distributed teams across multiple employment models and regions
Bonus Points
- Background in gaming, social platforms, or community-driven products; bonus if you understand that the product IS the community
- A genuine track record of fostering belonging across a diverse, global workforce
- You’ve spent time in [Employer hidden], or you’re curious about social VR and what it means for how people connect
