About the Role

We are St Andrew's — a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey. As we continue to evolve, we are looking for a professional, calm, and proactive Security Officer to join our team.

St Andrew's Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible security presence across the site
  • Monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring safety procedures are followed
  • Support staff in managing challenging situations, using de-escalation where appropriate
  • Communicate clearly with patients, staff and visitors
  • Conduct regular patrols and security checks
  • Escorting visitors and contractors around the site including wards
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety and security policies

Requirements

  • Previous experience in security, healthcare or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good understanding of safety, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Respectful, patient, non-judgemental and empathic approach when working in a mental health environment
