Job Description

We are St Andrew's — a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.

As we continue to evolve, we are looking for a professional, calm, and proactive Self-employed Barber to join our team.

St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled self-employed barber to provide regular hairdressing and grooming services within a mental health hospital setting. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on patients’ wellbeing, confidence, and dignity through professional grooming services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide barbering services including haircuts, beard trims, and basic grooming
  • Work sensitively with patients experiencing a range of mental health conditions
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and supportive approach at all times
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned and maintained to high hygiene standards
  • Manage your own appointments and schedule in coordination with ward staff
  • Adhere to hospital policies, including infection control and safeguarding procedures

Requirements

  • Fully qualified barber (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent preferred)
  • Proven experience in barbering
  • Public liability insurance (essential)
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience, empathy, and professionalism
