Shift Manager – Green Tunnels

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] Ltd is seeking a Shift Manager for its Green Tunnels production line. The role involves leading production teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing of precast concrete products within a rotating shift pattern. This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of £55,000 to £59,000 per annum, based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures and legislation.
  • Ensure that product quality exceeds customer expectations (internal & external).
  • Ensure ‘Green’ repairs are effective whilst investigating root cause analysis to ‘design’ in quality.
  • Manage compliance with QA inspections ensuring daily QC checks are performed above 90% RFT and reported at daily KPI meeting.
  • Delivery of production outputs in line with targets and objectives.
  • Meet or exceed consistent & sustained achievements against specific KPI targets around OEE, FPE, CTP, Quality, Costs & Efficiencies.
  • Effective management of all resources to ensure just in time delivery of materials and other resources aligned to delivery of production plan.
  • Identification & implementation of productivity improvements using lean principles.
  • Be aware of associated costs of production and endeavour to reduce, using the 8-waste principles, where possible.
  • Train and develop the production team to maximise efficiency and staff development.
  • Contribute to improvement initiatives and developments and provide any other services as required in support of these initiatives.
  • Produce weekly reports summarizing plant performance & improvement objectives.

Accountabilities

  • Manage Team Leaders/Supervisors and their team members, providing feedback, conducting performance reviews, ensuring policy compliance.
  • Ensure all team members and new starters understand their duties and responsibilities for safe working (trainings, competency, SOPs, RAs).
  • Manage staffing rosters to maintain optimum complement, authorise overtime as needed.
  • Manage attendance and timekeeping, take initial action on poor timekeeping and unauthorised absence.
  • Manage sickness absence, including reporting and return-to-work processes.
  • Ensure team members adhere to expected standards of behaviour; maintain discipline.
  • Organise and lead pre-shift briefings, keep team updated with company communications.
  • Cooperate with HR on investigations, policy meetings, performance reviews, etc.

Key Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience implementing Lean / leading Continuous Improvement events. Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent.
  • Operational leadership experience in construction end-product, precast concrete or manufacturing environments (casting, setting, pouring) – minimum 5 years.
  • Experience managing people with confidence to tackle performance and related issues, ensuring HR compliance.
  • Specific knowledge of managing production teams and company policies on Health & Safety, Discipline, Attendance, etc.
  • Degree or equivalent higher education preferred but not essential.
  • MS Office and strong computer skills.
  • Minimum IOSH Managing Safely (preferably NEBOSH General Certificate).
  • VFL Training, First Aid (Emergency Responder) preferred.
  • Train the Trainer programme.
