Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Macroalgal Research (D01/23.MS)

Location: SAMS, Oban

Contract Type: Open-ended

Working Pattern: Full Time (37hrs per week)

Salary Range: Grade 7/8. Lecturer G7 - £42,155 - £47,423 per annum. Senior Lecturer G8 - £51,805 - £58,284 per annum

The Role

You will be a key player in driving forward SAMS programme of discovery and applied research, in the area of macroalgal/seaweed research as part of the Blue Growth Research Area at SAMS. You will be expected to engage with both existing SAMS research and commercial projects as well as develop your own funding streams, as well as contribute to SAMS programme of education at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

The expectation is that the post holder will develop a research portfolio supported from both traditional and non-traditional sources - including NGOs, Trusts, Foundations etc. - to deliver targeted applied research.

Working with fellow researchers, SAMS Enterprise and the Development team, linked to philanthropic funding sources, you will use your experience in the design and application of laboratory/field experimentation, to deliver commissioned projects, reports and papers to defined timescales and budgets. Projects may vary in scale and scope from traditional research, contract research, consultancy, delivering reports and programmes for commercial clients to community projects.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have a PhD in a relevant in seaweed/macroalgae, mariculture, or plant science discipline as well as in experience operating in a more independent role as a lecturer/senior lecturer in macroalgal research. A strong understanding of bioprocessing/biorefinery/value chains approaches would be advantageous as well as a track record in research and commercial projects, as well as evidence of some non-traditional income streams.
