PDRA in Seaweed Resource Policy & Management (D37/23.EC)

Contract Type: Fixed Term (24 months)

Working Pattern: Full Time (37hrs per week)

Salary: £29,915.19 - £33,647.14 per annum

The Role

  • Identifying key gaps in global policies and legislation to support climate resilience and biodiversity in wild seaweed populations.
  • Understanding knowledge, attitude and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs), primarily in Malaysia, regarding management and conservation of wild seaweed.
  • Devising new innovative seaweed cultivation/management practices to enhance biodiversity in conjunction with Malaysian researchers.
  • Assessing scalability, social acceptability, and economic viability of new management practices in developing countries in SE Asia.

Our Ideal Candidate

Must have a PhD in an agri- or marine plant/seaweed research area or related field and have published in high impact scientific journals. Some experience in policy analysis is helpful. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with researchers from other cultures. Willingness to attend international project meetings (Malaysia, Canada, France) and a short research trip (~3 weeks) to Malaysia is essential.
