Job Description

We’re building something special in our Newcastle pod, and we’re looking for people who want to grow, lead, and make a real impact.

The Semi‑Senior Accountant role is about building on your existing accounting knowledge and putting theory into practice. You’ll be part‑qualified and continuing to study towards a professional qualification, while gaining hands‑on experience in a real‑world environment.

You’ll be responsible for completing assigned accounting tasks accurately and in line with accounting standards, with a strong focus on detail and compliance. You’ll work closely with more experienced team members, learning from them and developing your practical skills as your confidence grows.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Technical: Apply core accounting principles, prepare VAT returns, management accounts, journals, and basic statutory accounts with minimal supervision. Support more complex or group accounts, including adjustments and consolidations. Complete simple corporation tax computations and assist with more complex cases. Apply practical tax and compliance knowledge (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax) to client work.
  • Digital & Data Literacy: Use systems such as Silverfin, Alphatax, Xero, Karbon, and Excel confidently. Validate, reconcile, and format data accurately. Spot and resolve data issues early. Suggest process improvements using system knowledge.
  • Learning and Development: Act on feedback and apply learning to new client work. Take a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Raise queries clearly with seniors and share knowledge with peers and newer colleagues.
  • Delivery & Ownership: Review your own work to ensure accuracy and completeness. Take ownership of areas you can complete independently. Use templates and tools to produce consistent, high‑quality outputs. Track time accurately and work within budget expectations. Manage workload independently, meeting deadlines and flagging risks early.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues. Write clear, well‑structured emails and updates. Explain technical matters simply to non‑specialists. Support team discussions, onboarding, and cross‑pod collaboration.
  • Client Focus & Professional Conduct: Build positive relationships with clients through clear, reliable communication. Respond to client queries confidently via email and calls. Produce client‑ready work with minimal revisions. Act professionally at all times, maintaining confidentiality and raising issues promptly.

You’ll Be Ideal for This Role If You Have:

  • Experience: 1–2 years’ experience in accounts and business services. A basic understanding of accounts processes and industry standards.
  • Skills: Confidence using accounts and data analysis software. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Clear, professional written and verbal communication.
  • Qualifications: Currently studying towards AAT, ACA, or ACCA.
