Job Description

A highly respected, design-led architecture studio is seeking a Sustainability Design Specialist to join its team on an immediate basis for a 3-month contract, with strong potential for extension.

Known for delivering thoughtful, people-focused housing and mixed-use developments across the UK, this practice is at the forefront of sustainable design, retrofit strategy, and environmental innovation. With a strong commitment to tackling the climate crisis, the studio integrates sustainability at every stage - from early concept through to delivery.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative, forward-thinking team, working across large-scale residential and mixed-use schemes (new build and retrofit), with real influence on environmental performance and design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of environmental and energy assessments across residential and mixed-use projects
  • Carry out domestic retrofit assessments
  • Produce energy and sustainability reports for planning and building control
  • Undertake environmental modelling including daylight/sunlight, overheating, and energy performance
  • Support research into embodied carbon, climate resilience, and sustainability strategies
  • Advise project teams and clients on best practice sustainable design solutions
  • Act as a key advocate for sustainability across all project stages (RIBA 0-7)

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in sustainable design / energy assessments within a UK practice
  • Qualified Domestic Energy Assessor or Retrofit Assessor
  • Strong experience with energy modelling tools
  • Proven experience delivering sustainability reports for UK residential projects
  • Solid understanding of UK building regulations and London Plan sustainability targets
  • Knowledge of building physics, retrofit strategy, and environmental performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Environmental Architecture, Engineering, or related field (advantageous)
