Job Description

[Employer hidden] is seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspiring Teacher of History and Politics to join our highly successful and well-established department from September 2026. This part-time role (0.8, or 0.6 if offering History only) offers the opportunity to teach across Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level within a high-achieving and deeply supportive all-girls environment, contributing to two thriving and intellectually ambitious subject areas.

At Channing, we believe that the study of History and Politics enables young women to explore the forces that have shaped the modern world, fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and informed, independent judgement. Both subjects are flourishing, with students achieving excellent outcomes at GCSE and A level, and many progressing to study related disciplines at leading universities. More importantly, pupils develop analytical, evaluative and communication skills, alongside confidence and cultural awareness, qualities that extend far beyond the classroom.

The History Department is a dynamic and collaborative team with a strong academic profile and a commitment to rigorous, engaging teaching. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, encouraging global awareness and supported by a rich programme of trips, visits and academic enrichment, including international study opportunities and a range of student-led initiatives. The Politics Department is equally vibrant, fostering a culture of open, respectful debate and encouraging students to engage thoughtfully with contemporary global issues, supported by societies, visiting speakers and enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom.

The successful candidate will build on this strong foundation by delivering high-quality, engaging lessons and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential. They will contribute to the co-curricular life of the school, including activities such as trips, societies and events, and play a full role in the pastoral life of the school as a Form Tutor or Co-Tutor. This role requires a passionate and reflective teacher who is committed to excellent teaching and learning, collaborative working and ongoing professional development, and who will contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
