Location: London, UK

Work Type: Hybrid

Job Type: Full-time

Experience Level: Mid-Senior level

The Role

We are seeking a practical, hands-on individual with excellent technical problem-solving skills and a strong background in polymers to join our Consultancy team.

[Employer hidden]’s Consultancy Department comprises a team of consultants providing expert advice on a wide range of construction engineering issues, including those related to facades, glass, polymers and metals. Consultants are given a great deal of autonomy to develop their area as appropriate and report directly to the Managing Partner.

The Firm is seeking to appoint a Consultant to add to our existing expertise in polymers. You will apply your strong polymer knowledge to conducting forensic investigations of polymer-related issues and failures. The work will take you to all manner of client sites to record information and gather evidence. Our in-house laboratory can provide support with a range of equipment and tests, but ultimately, you will be responsible for conducting the investigation from the beginning to the end, including potentially providing expert witness evidence in court.

  • Responsible for managing, planning and costing your own work, liaising directly with clients, organising equipment and undertaking site work
  • Conducting site-based investigations
  • Reviewing technical documentation, standards and conducting technical literature reviews
  • Examining failed components and determining suitable testing as required
  • Write formal technical reports detailing your findings that may later be relied upon in legal proceedings
  • Full-time position based from our laboratories in Clapham, London
  • Flexibility to work partially from home, but you should live within commuting distance of London
  • Mainly working in the London region, but with occasional work elsewhere in the UK

At [Employer hidden], we rate excellence; we’ll support you to integrate within the Firm, whilst giving you the freedom to carve a niche for yourself.

  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for problem-solving
  • Ability to write technical reports in English
  • Understanding of the applications of polymers within construction and the potential associated issues
  • Strong technical understanding of one or more of: rubber, thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), GRP and thermosetting resins
