CCAP Support Scientist
Company: Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS)
Location: Oban, Scotland
Contract Type: Fixed Term, approx. 18 months – funding available until 31/3/24
Salary Range: £20,600 - £21,686 per annum
Working Pattern: Full Time - 37hrs per week

Job Purpose
You will join a vibrant research community to strengthen and widen the capacity to support SAMS’ research, commercial and educational activities.
The role
You will be part of the team at The Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP). You will participate in a varied workload across a range of specialisms including: maintenance and supply of algae and protozoa and purification of contaminated strains; isolating new strains and ensuring their taxonomy, photographs and information is up to date. You will also support the new CCAP-ARIES Centre growing large biomass of algae and associated activities. To follow procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 accreditation.
The post will sit within a pool of research technicians/support scientists managed by our Technical Resources Manager. Individuals will be expected to pro-actively engage with a varied workload to support the requirements across the business.
Our ideal candidate
You will have a relevant degree and/or proven experience in a similar role, with excellent communication skills. You will be well organised with the ability to multi-task and work well as part of a team that serves a wider research/business/educational community.
