FULL DESCRIPTION

Ship's Operations Manager (D11/23.CA)

Location: SAMS, Oban

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full Time (37 hours per week)

Salary Range: £29,619 - £33,314

Closing date: Monday 31st July 2023

The Role

The role will work closely with the Ship’s Master at SAMS to ensure the safe and effective management of SAMS research vessels and related maritime activities. You will lead in activities related to the operational management of the vessels at SAMS, ensuring they are fit for purpose and compliant at all times, whilst liaising with vessel users to ensure that their specific at-sea research requirements are met. The role will also support the Ship’s Master during routine vessel activities, acting as crew to assist in the deployment of scientific sampling equipment, in addition to vessel maintenance activities.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will enjoy the varied nature of the post, working in collaboration with the Ship’s Master to support and facilitate the vessel-based scientific research conducted at SAMS. You will be flexible and organised, have excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working on small vessels, in additional to understanding the compliance and management aspects of running and maintaining nearshore workboats.
