JOB DESCRIPTION
[Employer hidden] are currently recruiting for a Fabrication Engineer on behalf of our client based in Aberdeen. The role will be on a permanent (staff) basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare detailed pricing estimates, including material and labour take-offs required for each project. Combine internal calculations with external vendor quotations to produce a comprehensive project cost estimate.
- Liaise with external vendors to obtain project-specific pricing within required deadlines.
- Coordinate with operations and subcontractors to determine construction methodology for both workshop fabrication and on-site installation.
- Engage with customers to ensure a full understanding of project scope, schedule, and specific technical requirements, delivering a complete and compliant proposal package.
- Provide additional support to the management team as required.
- Be the lead on new quoting system as mentor and trainer.
REQUIREMENTS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Primarily office-based in an indoor environment, with occasional site visits.
- Role requires extended periods of focused reading, analysis, and numerical computation.
- Strong concentration and attention to detail are essential.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Sound understanding of structural steel and pipework fabrication and erection practices, including knowledge of structural shapes and industry terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, design documentation, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of material grades and applicable industry standards.
- Understanding of welding processes and relevant standards.
- Familiarity with subcontracted services such as NDT, coating, and machining, including associated specifications and standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), with strong emphasis on advanced Excel skills. CAD knowledge would be preferred.
- Experience using PDF review and editing software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical and contractual/legal documentation.
- Strong mathematical and geometrical aptitude.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working to tight deadlines.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
- Minimum requirement: Trade qualification in Fabrication and/or Welding/ Engineering.
