Job Description

An established and forward-thinking multi-disciplinary engineering Consultancy with a strong regional presence across Yorkshire and the Humber is seeking to appoint an experienced Flood Risk & Drainage Engineer to join its growing infrastructure team in York. With a long-standing reputation for delivering practical, sustainable and commercially aware engineering solutions, the organisation provides a fully integrated service across Civil Engineering, Building Surveying and environmental disciplines, enabling it to support projects from initial feasibility through to detailed design and construction.

The Civil Engineering design teams possess broad expertise across the sector, complementing and strengthening the wider Consultancy offering. Alongside traditional areas of Civil Engineering design such as substructures, access roads and sewer design, the practice delivers Flood Risk Assessments, Contaminated Land Surveys and feasibility studies for development sites. As land availability becomes increasingly constrained, developers are seeking innovative approaches to brownfield and technically challenging sites, and the Consultancy has a proven track record of unlocking complex sites to achieve best value. The team is experienced in addressing associated environmental considerations including land drainage, flooding, tree retention and the impact of development on wildlife habitats.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a Civil Engineer with a minimum of three years' consultancy experience and a strong interest in flood risk assessment and surface water management. The successful individual will take responsibility for preparing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy reports in support of planning applications, alongside the design and modelling of surface water and foul drainage systems for a diverse range of development schemes. The role will involve contributing to road and drainage layouts for new developments, integrating closely with Architects' housing layouts and working to adoptable standards in accordance with local authority and statutory body requirements. Collaboration with Building Surveyors and fellow Engineers to support Planning and Building Regulation submissions will form a key part of the role.

From its regional offices across Yorkshire, the Civil teams regularly deliver large-scale flood alleviation design schemes, together with complex infrastructure projects including wharfs, jetties, marine structures and coastal erosion flood breach analysis. The appointed Civil Engineer will be confident in the application of Sustainable Drainage Systems principles, attenuation and infiltration design, and hydraulic modelling, with proficiency in relevant industry software such as Civil 3D and drainage modelling packages. A strong understanding of UK planning policy and approval processes, together with clear and professional written communication skills, is essential.

The Consultancy offers a supportive and collaborative working environment where professional development is actively encouraged. Structured mentoring and assistance towards chartership are available, alongside opportunities to broaden technical expertise through involvement in a varied and expanding project portfolio. A competitive salary and benefits package is offered in line with experience, together with flexible working arrangements and genuine scope for long-term career progression within a stable and respected practice.
