FULL DESCRIPTION

Graduate Building Services Engineer

Location: Horsham, West Sussex

Salary: £25000 - £30000 per annum

Sector: Mechanical & Electrical

Type: Permanent

Ref: 39858_1776354818

Role

A well-established building services consultancy in the South East is looking to appoint a Graduate Building Services Engineer to join its growing team. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or junior-level engineer with an interest in both mechanical and electrical building services design, particularly someone who enjoys working on early-stage concepts, sustainability-led projects and low-carbon design. The business offers a collaborative environment where junior engineers are given exposure to a wide variety of project work rather than being limited to a single discipline or narrow role.

The Role

The successful candidate will support the delivery of building services projects across a range of sectors, working closely with senior mechanical and electrical engineers from concept stage through to completion. You will have the chance to get involved with:

  • Mechanical and electrical building services design
  • CAD and technical drawing production
  • Early-stage concept design
  • Low-carbon and sustainable design solutions
  • Client and design team meetings
  • Site visits and project coordination
  • Technical calculations and specifications

This position would suit someone who enjoys variety and wants to build a broad skill set across the building services sector.

About the Business

The company has dedicated mechanical and electrical teams led by experienced department heads, supported by senior technicians and intermediate engineers. They are known for investing heavily in junior staff and creating clear long-term progression opportunities. Junior employees are encouraged to gain exposure to all areas of the business, including technical design, project delivery, IT systems and business development. The business has a strong track record of supporting further education and professional development.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should ideally have:

  • A degree in Building Services Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related discipline
  • An interest in both architecture and building services design
  • Some exposure to CAD packages such as AutoCAD or Revit
  • A genuine interest in sustainability and low-carbon design
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment

Previous placement experience within a building services consultancy would be advantageous but is not essential.

Progression

This role offers a clear route into more senior technical positions over time, with the opportunity to progress into Senior Technician or Engineer level roles. The company is particularly interested in people who want to build a long-term career and become well-rounded engineers with exposure to multiple aspects of the business.
