The Role
This consultancy are looking to appoint a Mechanical Associate Director to lead the delivery of mechanical building services across a diverse portfolio of projects while contributing to the strategic growth of the business.
This is an opportunity to take on a senior leadership position within a collaborative and forward thinking engineering environment, where you will influence both project outcomes and the development of the mechanical discipline.
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary project teams, provide technical oversight and ensure the successful delivery of projects from concept design through to construction and completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the design and delivery of mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, public health, and associated infrastructure
- Managing and mentoring mechanical engineering teams, supporting professional development and performance
- Taking responsibility for the technical quality and compliance of all mechanical design outputs
- Undertaking and leading design reviews, resolving complex technical challenges
- Overseeing project delivery to ensure programmes, budgets, and quality standards are achieved
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, leading meetings, presentations, and workshops
- Supporting business development activities, including bid preparation, fee proposals, and opportunity identification
- Managing commercial aspects of projects, including fee expenditure, resourcing, and profitability
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and health & safety requirements
- Embedding sustainability and low carbon design principles into all engineering solutions
- Promoting the use of BIM and digital design tools across project delivery
- Contributing to the strategic development and continuous improvement of the mechanical engineering discipline
What they're looking for:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards at an advanced stage)
- Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy or contractor environment
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC, public health systems, and building services design
- Proven experience in leading project delivery and managing engineering teams
- Sound understanding of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, and industry best practice
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances
- Strong communication and client facing skills
- Commitment to sustainable design and energy efficient engineering solutions
