Objectives & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the department team leader, the role of the skilled welder is a critical position within Northern Hydraulics Ltd. The post holder will be responsible for a variety of duties as outlined in this job description.

The post holder will be dedicated to contributing to the company’s continued success, whilst maintaining our company reputation as a leading manufacturer of high-quality hydraulic cylinders.

They will assume full responsibility for their duties within our welding department and act in good faith with the best interests of the company at the forefront of their intent throughout their employment with NHL. The post holder person is required to demonstrate an ability to add value to the organisation by completing their duties in a timely and effective manner.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reading & interpreting engineering drawings
  • Welding to a high standard using a three-phase MIG welder
  • Operating workshop machinery (hand power tools)
  • Conducting in-process quality checks
  • Engaging with the company’s MRP system
  • Maintaining high levels of housekeeping
  • Working in line with efficiency targets for your area
  • Operating in line with company H & S policy
  • Adhering to all company policy especially in relation to timekeeping and attendance
  • Any other duties, within reason & capability, as determined by the team leader

Key Performance Indicators

  • Defect rates for weld related quality issues
  • Compliance to efficiency targets
  • Compliance to H & S policy and company policy
  • Compliance and engagement levels with company MRP system and NC process where appropriate

Individual performance is continuously monitored.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience
  • Ability to accurately read & interpret AutoCAD drawings
  • Experience in welding to a high standard using a three-phase MIG welder
  • Experience in operating workshop machinery
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative
  • Ability to work within the internal quality system, ensuring that a high standard of production is maintained through to the finished product stage
  • Good communication skills both verbal & written
  • Operating in a safe & responsible manner at all times
  • Maintain good housekeeping & safe working environment
  • Willingness to be flexible in accordance with the business needs
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Welding qualification (NVQ or equivalent)
  • Experience in a precision engineering environment
  • Experience working in a hydraulics setting
  • Recognised as fully coded by a relevant awarding body
  • Knowledge of welding automation processes is advantageous but not essential

Hours of Work

Monday – Thursday: 07:30 – 16:30

Friday: 07:30 – 13:30 *Early finish on Friday*
