Role Overview

The Business Development Manager will take ownership of the company’s sales performance, identifying new business opportunities, strengthening existing customer relationships, and ensuring alignment between customer requirements and internal engineering and production capabilities. This role requires a commercially driven leader with strong technical awareness and experience operating within manufacturing or engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a clear business development and sales strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Lead, coach, and manage the Sales Team to achieve targets and drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities across target sectors and geographic markets
  • Promote both new and existing client engagement and growth through supporting customers to satisfy their needs.
  • Manage the full sales lifecycle from initial enquiry through quotation, negotiation, and order placement.
  • Support the development of tailored technical solutions in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Oversee marketing activities including branding, customer communications, and industry events.
  • Prepare and deliver professional presentations and proposals to customers.
  • Ensure all sales activities operate within agreed budgets and deliver strong commercial returns.
  • Contribute to overall company strategy as a member of the senior management team.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in a senior business development or sales leadership role within manufacturing or engineering.
  • Track record of delivering revenue growth and managing key customer accounts.
  • Experience working with OEM customers and complex, engineered products.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer needs and business profitability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop sales teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Self-driven, results oriented, and comfortable operating at a strategic and operational level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of general engineering principles, with preference given to candidates with experience in the quarrying, agricultural, or waste machinery sectors in Ireland and GB.
  • Experience developing international markets.
  • Extensive experience leading business development and marketing functions, with a proven track record of delivering both individual and team targets.
  • Strong commercial awareness with confidence engaging both SMEs and large OEM customers.
  • Previous experience creating sales strategy within Engineering or Manufacturing Industry.
  • Experience leading and managing sales teams, including coaching, performance management, and driving accountability.
  • Self motivated with the ability to proactively drive business growth within defined markets and sectors.
  • Ability to work cross functionally with technical, production, and financial teams.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to target markets as required to achieve business objectives.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • Proficient in standard business IT systems.
