Main Roles and Responsibilities
- To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated range of specialist play therapy diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative services in a variety of settings including the clinic, schools and children’s centres, which improve or maintain the health, function, well-being, learning potentials, independence and quality of life of the children.
- With support, manage a caseload of individuals aged 0-18 years with a range of needs and disabilities. This will involve specialist treatment of children with neurological difficulties, co-ordination difficulties, sensory processing problems and attention and behavioural deficits and maintaining associated clinical records.
- To devise and participate in the creation of product lines and services, including but not limited to training services, group and individual therapy programmes, and professional development for the Organisation.
Play Therapy Duties Include
- Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team and with other professionals such as social workers, teachers, healthcare professionals, and medical practitioners.
- With support through supervision, manage a caseload of individuals (children/young people usually aged 0-18 years) including those with a range of needs and disabilities. This will involve specialist treatment of children with neurological difficulties, co-ordination difficulties, sensory processing problems and attention and behavioural deficits and maintaining associated clinical records.
- Provide comprehensive Play Therapy assessments, adjusting your use of language/way of assessing to allow for a child’s level of comprehension and participation.
- Produce accurate and informative reports on activities and/or progress.
- Determine the course of therapeutic treatment, and review therapeutic intervention with the child and family on a regular basis.
- Commit to the entirety of the Play Therapy treatment agreed with the family and the child, providing weekly play therapy sessions with the child, informing the child at the beginning of treatment of any foreseen breaks in their regular sessions.
- Create a safe and stable therapeutic environment in which children can express themselves through play.
- Respect the child’s confidentiality in all instances, including when writing reports and/or communicating progress with parents.
- Maintain regular communication with and support parents in the course of the child’s treatment.
- Provide individual and/or group therapy sessions/treatment, and provide preventative services to children and young people.
- Arrange and/or attend meetings with parents and/or other professionals (including internal multi-disciplinary meetings), and whenever possible invite/involve the child so they are actively part of processes and decisions that affect them.
- Maintain up-to-date client records using the Organisation’s chosen systems, including but not limited to session notes, email communications, reports, and assessments.
- Provide support to families and other professionals in a variety of settings including the clinic, schools and children’s centres, which aims to improve or support the emotional health, behavioural function, learning potentials, independence and quality of life of the children.
- Devise and deliver service and product lines for the Organisation, including but not limited to individual and group therapy programmes, professional development and supportive training programmes for professionals, schools and families.
- Be lawfully registered with the appropriate professional governing body (PTUK or BAPT) and to comply with governance requirements.
