Care Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Care Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals in our care home, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those in their care.

Job Overview:

(In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required)

  • To provide care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of the Senior Carer/Deputy/Manager
  • To support and enable residents to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to each individual.
  • To maintain skills at a current level and undertake such training and development as required, from time-to-time, to maintain and progress knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring residents are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences are met to enhance their wellbeing
  • Providing high standards of personal care, whilst enabling residents to maintain independence, wherever possible
  • Assisting residents with appropriate meals, drinks and snacks, according to their needs
  • Contributing to the efficient running of the home
  • Supporting residents to maintain their relationships and connections with the local community; and assisting residents to take part in meaningful activities
  • Ensuring personal care plans and other information about how to support the person are followed
  • Documenting all support provided to residents
  • Informing the Senior Carer/Deputy Manager of any changes in the needs of residents being supported
  • Promoting and protecting the welfare of residents at all times
  • Developing effective working relationships with other employees within the home
  • Working in cooperation with members of the multidisciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for residents
  • Where desired by the resident, maintaining and developing relationships with family, friends and other people important in their life

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Working within the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Code of Professional Conduct
  • Having knowledge of, and adhering to, the established guidelines and regulations that define the quality of care delivery in the social care sector
  • Holding or obtaining a relevant qualification, as required for the role
  • Completing mandatory training and any other training, as directed by the Home Manager
  • Following all policies and procedures relevant to the role
  • Being open to learning opportunities

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a care home or home care setting is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills in English are necessary for effective interaction with clients and team members.
  • Familiarity with developing and implementing care plans is beneficial.
  • Basic IT skills are required for record-keeping and communication purposes.
  • A compassionate nature with a commitment to providing high-quality care is essential.
