I chose [Employer hidden] because of its reputation as a supportive and rewarding place to work. This breadth of exposure is perfect for building a strong foundation in cyber security and developing a well-rounded understanding of the department.
How does the graduate scheme work?
The Cyber graduate scheme, which involves three nine-month placements across different teams within the Cyber department. This structure provides fantastic exposure to the areas of cyber security at [Employer hidden].
What do you like best about your job?
Alongside the placements, I also participate in a range of training sessions with other trainees, which helps us develop both technical and soft skills together.
How are you supported in your role?
As part of the scheme, I’ve taken part in a variety of development activities alongside my fellow trainees. These include regular training sessions on topics such as presentation skills, time management, and effective influencing. I’m also undertaking a Level 7 Masters Apprenticeship in Digital Technology (Cyber), which is a fantastic opportunity to deepen my knowledge and gain a recognised qualification.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
My biggest achievement so far has been stepping confidently into new teams and environments as part of the Cyber graduate scheme at [Employer hidden]. Each placement has required me to quickly adapt to different ways of working and to build strong relationships with new colleagues. I’ve taken the initiative to lead on collaborative tasks and support others, whether that’s sharing knowledge or helping to coordinate group projects. Balancing these responsibilities with my Masters, has really developed my resilience and leadership skills. I’m proud of how I’ve grown in confidence, taken on new challenges, and contributed positively to the teams I’ve worked with.
What advice would you have for someone starting out?
My advice would be to be yourself and show your achievements! Take your time with the application and do your research - it really shows when you care about the role and the company. Being genuine and well-prepared goes a long way in making a positive impression.
How did you find the onboarding experience?
My onboarding experience was excellent. I was kept well-informed throughout the process, which made everything feel smooth and welcoming. Meeting my team and connecting with other trainees from before my official start date really helped me feel comfortable and confident as I began my journey with the company.
What is your current role?
In my current placement, I’m working within the Vulnerability Management team. This team is responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing vulnerabilities across our organisation’s systems and applications. We play a key role in helping to protect the business by organising and facilitating regular security testing, ensuring that any weaknesses are found and addressed promptly.
