What first attracted you to [Employer hidden]?
What first drew me to [Employer hidden] was how much the company clearly values both its people and its customers. I really wanted to work somewhere that shares my values, and where I’d have the chance to grow and develop my career. One of the things that really stood out to me was how different this graduate scheme is compared to others. My role is field based, which means I get to experience lots of different parts of the business rather than being tied to one office. That variety has been brilliant for my development, it’s helped me build a broader understanding of the company and given me the chance to learn from different teams and situations. When I told friends and family I’d applied, everyone had something positive to say! Whether it was from their own experience or just from what they’d seen online. That kind of feedback really confirmed for me that I was making the right choice.
How does the graduate scheme work?
On the Insurance Sales graduate scheme, you’ll work towards a professional qualification with the CII, which is a great way to kickstart your career in insurance. You’ll take part in a rotational agency placement, where you’ll gain product licences, sell policies, make changes, go on client visits, and build relationships with customers. It’s also a chance to learn how the [Employer hidden] Agency Network operates and get a real feel for how different parts of the business work. There’s a good balance between office-based and remote work, with the flexibility to work from home, take part in regional projects, attend training sessions, and get involved in agricultural shows and networking events. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in different projects and explore various areas across the company. If something in particular catches your interest, the scheme is flexible enough to let you explore it further and develop your skills in that area. You’ll also be able to shadow other colleagues to learn from their experience and broaden your understanding. The scheme runs for three years, but if a role comes up that you’re really interested in and feel ready for, you’re encouraged to apply. There’s a lot of support to help you take that next step when the time feels right.
What do you like best about your job?
What I enjoy most about my job is how much I’m constantly learning. Every week brings something new, whether it’s working on a different project, shadowing someone in another part of the business, or picking up new skills through training. I love that I’m not just doing one thing over and over - there’s always a chance to get involved, ask questions, and explore areas that interest me. That kind of environment keeps me motivated and makes the role feel really rewarding.
How have [Employer hidden] invested in you as a person?
The company has invested in me in so many ways over the past year. Early in the scheme, I was given the opportunity to complete a highly respected professional qualification with the CII, which has been a major step forward for both my personal development and my career. I’ve been trusted to lead on projects that have helped me grow my skills, apply existing knowledge, and learn new things. Working closely with stakeholders has not only developed my confidence and communication skills but also helped me build my network and raise my personal profile across the business. I’ve also gained product licences that have expanded my understanding of the company and its offerings and allowed me to get more involved in business transactions.
How are you supported in your role?
From the beginning, I’ve had a clear point of contact for any questions or support, which has made a big difference in feeling confident and well-supported. Regular catchups with my line manager have been a key part of my development too - I’m always encouraged to speak up, share my thoughts, and explore new opportunities, whether that’s through projects, training, or shadowing others in different roles. I’m also well supported by the agents and staff at my current agency placement. Everyone’s been approachable and helpful, and I’ve felt comfortable reaching out to anyone when I’ve needed guidance or answers.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment so far has been leading the creation of a personalised marketing and information leaflet for one of our agencies. It was a project I took ownership of from start to finish, and it involved liaising with a wide range of people across the business to gather the right content, ensure accuracy, and tailor the messaging to the agency’s needs. Being trusted with that responsibility early on in the scheme was a big confidence boost. It allowed me to apply what I’d learned, develop new skills, and collaborate with stakeholders, which was also one of the ways that helped me build my network and raise my personal profile within the company. Seeing the final product in use and knowing I’d made a real contribution was incredibly rewarding!
What advice would you have for someone starting out?
My biggest piece of advice would be to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. The scheme is full of chances to get involved in different projects, meet new people, and explore areas of the business you might not have considered before. Be open-minded, don’t be afraid to say yes and step outside your comfort zone - you’re encouraged to shape your own journey! Build relationships early on, both within your agency placement and across the wider business. Everyone is really approachable, and you’ll learn so much just by asking questions. Also, make sure to speak up and share your thoughts. Your development is taken seriously, and people genuinely want to support you.
How did you find the onboarding experience?
From the moment I applied, right through to induction week, I had regular and supportive communication from both the Learning and Development team and my future line manager. Before induction officially began, there was a chance to meet the rest of the graduate cohort in a relaxed, informal setting at head office, which really helped break the ice. The induction week itself, held at the Stratford-upon-Avon head office, was a brilliant introduction to the company. We learned about [Employer hidden]’s history and current direction, heard from different departments, took part in Q&A sessions with directors and the CEO, and got involved in fun team-building activities. It was a great way to start the scheme and feel part of the wider business from day one.
What is your current role?
I’m currently in my 2nd year on the Insurance Sales graduate scheme at [Employer hidden]. My role involves working within an agency to support customer enquiries, gain product licences, and get hands-on experience with business transactions. I also lead and support projects, collaborate with different teams, and take part in training and development activities to build my skills and knowledge across the business.
