About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join [Employer hidden]’s Head Office Underwriting Department as part of our Farming and Estates Segment Underwriting team.

This role can be offered as either a permanent position, or a fixed term contract for 12 months, depending on candidate preference.

Reporting to the Underwriting Segment Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping our underwriting strategy for a defined product range - bringing expert judgement, developing guidance, and translating underwriting appetite into clear, actionable rules and processes.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Pricing, Propositions, Sales, Agency, Claims and wider business functions, influencing decision making and ensuring our underwriting practices remain consistent, customer focused, and commercially effective. As part of our continued transformation, you’ll contribute to strategic projects that improve how we operate and support our ambition to remain the UK’s most trusted insurer - making and ensuring our underwriting practices remain consistent, customer-focused, and commercially effective.

The role offers hybrid working to support flexibility, collaboration, and wellbeing – this will involve spending 20% of your time at one of our [Employer hidden] offices (Stratford-upon Avon, York, Bristol, Belfast or Glasgow), and up to 80% of your time working from home.

About you

You bring strong technical knowledge and a background in Farm underwriting, supported by analytical and strategic thinking skills. You are confident using data to inform decisions, undertaking report writing, and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Equally you’ll enjoy contributing to improvements that create meaningful impact.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in Farm underwriting, with Estates experience desirable
  • Strong report writing skills and the ability to interpret complex information for varied audiences
  • Confident communicator with influencing skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with all levels of stakeholders
  • Analytical thinker who can translate data into insight and actionable recommendations
  • Experience contributing to, or delivering projects in, a fastmoving environment, having worked in a head office / strategy-focused underwriting role previously
