Job Title – Connections Assistant (Grid & Electrical Engineering)

Location & flexibility – Hybrid – St Helens HQ 3 days per week + 2 days working from home.
Salary – £40,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience) + benefits package including pension, excellent bonus, and development opportunities. Junior candidates with 1–2 years’ experience will be considered at an appropriate grade.
About the Job:
As the Connections Assistant, you will play a key technical role supporting grid connection strategy and electrical engineering activities across a growing renewable energy portfolio. Working closely with planning, engineering, commercial teams and external stakeholders, you will help deliver projects from early-stage origination through development and up to pre-energisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to gain ownership of grid and utility workstreams within a small, dynamic team and rapidly build experience across a diverse range of technologies and network operators.
About you:
• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy or a related discipline (BSc or MSc).
• Ideally 3+ years’ experience in grid engineering, power systems or renewable energy development (junior candidates with 1–2 years’ experience encouraged to apply).
• Understanding of UK power systems, grid policy and renewable energy technologies including BESS, solar and hybrid projects.
• Experience or exposure to transmission and distribution networks (11kV–132kV).
• Familiarity with grid connection processes, network constraints, curtailment analysis or connection design.
• Comfortable using technical software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, Python, Visio, MS Project or similar tools.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical detail into clear, business-focused insights.
• Confident communicator, able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive, organised and keen to take ownership in a fast-paced development environment.
• Enjoys working as part of a young, collaborative and close-knit team.
